Purpose

The Neuromodulation Foundation is a charitable, tax-exempt organization incorporated in Maryland in August 2007.  The Neuromodulation Foundation contributes to the improvement of the health and well-being of patients suffering from various debilitating neurological and medical conditions by providing education about the medical therapy known as neuromodulation and by reporting the results of scientific research in the field of neuromodulation. 

Board of Directors & Staff

Richard B. North, MD, is President of the Foundation and is joined on the Board by Donlin Long, MD, and Peter Gaskins, MBA.  Dr. Long has been active in the field of neuromodulation since its inception, and Mr. Gaskins has an extensive background in the management of an exempt organization.

The Executive Director of the Foundation is Jane Shipley.

Programs

This website represents one of the major areas in which the Foundation is providing information to educate physicians and the public.  The website contains The Practice Parameters for the Use of Spinal Cord Stimulation in the Treatment of Chronic Neuropathic Pain.  The print version of these Practice Parameters was published by the journal Pain Medicine in December 2007.  The next areas of the website will present The Practice Parameters for the Use of Spinal Cord Stimulation as a Treatment of Ischemic Pain and a definitive book that will cover all aspects of spinal cord stimulation and will be downloadable and available as a print version.

Under the aegis of the Foundation, Dr. North and Ms. Shipley also present talks on such topics as the cost-effectiveness of spinal cord stimulation, best practices in study design, and the application of evidence-based medicine in the field of neuromodulation.
